Good Sniff gives the crowd a masterclass in the art of live music every time they play. Between the two members, Lachie and Elias, they produce a sound that’s the musical equivalent of a fighter jet on take-off! What more could you ask for from two mates who continue to take alt-rock to new heights? I caught the band after their set at the Lass ‘O’ Gowrie Hotel in Newcastle to let them have a Good Sniff at our Five Quickfire Questions!
Good Sniffare:
Lachie Brown: Drums and vocals
Elias Hodson: Bass and backing vocals
1. You have VOICES in your head, but you have the power to decide whose it is. Who do you choose?
Elias: Ha-ha-ha holy fuck…
OB: It could be anyone, Sade, Obama, alive or dead.
Elias: Probably Brad Pitt.
Lachie:(Laughs in agreement) Yeah.

2. You’ve just played a Friday night show and All in All it was a pretty big one? What’s your plan for dealing with the hangover?
Elias: You have to start off with a kebab at the end of the night. Wake up, lots of blue Gatorades.
OB: Do you ever tap into the powered Powerade? You ever get the cans?
Lachie: Oh yeah! It’s like a protein shake.
Elias: I haven’t had that since year seven. I went on a school camp.
Lachie: That’s when I was on it heavy.
OB: Heavy on the blue Powerade ha-ha.
Elias: Cause its expensive man.
OB: Yeah. It’s what? Like $15 for a jar of powder?
Elias: Or like $5 for a bottle. So you know you’re getting better value.
Lachie: They punch like five Beroccas.
OB: Ha-ha-ha. Beroccas, Gatorade…
Elias: And a fresh vape.
Lachie: Elias would get a three-piece meal from KFC.
OB: Even after a kebab the night before?
Lachie: You gotta back it up… and then I’d probably get a Zinger Box but no sauce on the burger cause I hate it.
Elias: You’re such a pain in the arse ha-ha.

3. That’s it Tiger is now the title of Australia’s No.1 cookbook and not your recent E.P. What’s the top recipe?
Lachie: Dude, dude, dude…
Elias: That’s the first thing I thought of.
Lachie: Nah, the fucken… [desperately trying to remember the dish]
Elias: Oi, is there swearing allowed in this?
OB: You can swear as much as you want.
Elias: Fuck yeah.
Lachie: The pasta we made.
Elias: Look, we had a night we were meant to cook for someone. Um, I was in charge of the pasta. Nailed that! That would probably be my recipe, “Spag Bowl”.
OB: What sort of pasta is a “Spag Bowl”? What’s in it? Mince, bitta tomato?
Elias: Mince meat, yeah bitta tomato, make the sauce from scratch.
OB: What are you doing with it?
Elias: Eating it.
OB: I mean are you putting herbs in the sauce? What’s the recipe?
Elias: Oh you want the recipe? Alright, you’ve gotta dice the tomatoes, Um… bitta onion, I mean half an onion, five garlic cloves, bitta Italian herbs, and spices… sauce is done mate.

4. Bands have risen up and taken over the country, which city are you renaming Sniff City?
(Elias cracks up laughing)
Lachie: Oh dude…
Elias: Oh my god… Probably Adelaide.
Lachie: Yeah Adelaide.
OB: Adelaide is now Sniff City?
Lachie: Yeah, Radelaide ha-ha-ha.
Elias: These are some questions.
Lachie: These are great.
Elias: I actually have to think.
Lachie: Why can’t every interview be like this?
(You heard it here first… OnlyBands for journalism world domination.)

OB: Ready for the last question?
Both: Yep!
Lachie: Here we go.
5. You’ve found yourselves in a dicey situation at a pub, there’s three of them, one of them has a Shiv. Which band are you calling on for help?
Elias: Probably SPEED.
Lachie: Yeah SPEED.
(Some people nearby overhear their answer and laugh in agreement)
Elias: They are some tough looking blokes.
Lachie: Scariest MF’s too.
(Editor’s Note: Yeah, they’re Not That Nice.)
And That’s It , Tiger! Have a listen to Good Sniff‘s rather appropriately named EP below:
Thanks to Dylan Jardine (@newkingjardine) for the show and press shots in this article.
If you’re in Brisbane, they have one last show of the EP tour at Greaser Bar on the 26th of April. And the best part? It’s free! If you’re not onto them already, make sure to head down and have a Good Sniff of what all the hype is about!
