The Megaflower is well and truly in bloom for Full Flower Moon Band. With their third album becoming the number one Australian album in the ARIA charts, it really seems like there’s no brakes on the rock n’ roll train for the Brisbane rock quintet. I’ve seen them at the Princess Theatre and The Triffid before and I have to say that they put on one of the most electrifying live shows I’ve seen in my time running around this city. Mere hours before they took to the stage at the Princess again for their biggest headline show to date, we sat down with frontwoman Kate Dillon to ask her five quickfire questions!
Full Flower Moon Band are:
- Kate Dillon: Vocals and guitar
- Marli Smales: Bass and backing vocals
- Luke Hanson: Drums
- Christian Driscoll: Guitar
- Caleb Widener: Guitar
1. If every Australian artist or band was on Tinder, which act would you choose to Super Like?
Kate: Aha! That’s such a good question. I’d super like Radium Dolls, I’d super like Boing Boing Band, I’d super like JB Patterson, I’d super like Bones and Jones, and… fuck. Are they all my friends?
OB: Well, that’s a long list of people to super like, it’s perfect.
Kate: Ah I’ll do one more. There are so many artists that I often, on Instagram, save artists onto a list so I don’t forget them because there’s so much great Australian music happening… but I’d super like ACDC.
2. There’s a lot of Illegal Things in this world. If you could pick one illegal thing and make it legal, what would you pick?
Kate: Ohhhh man. I think we should legalise everything. I think you can look at other countries who have set-up way better infrastructure for people who have serious problems and the legalise everything terminology is kind of the only thing that fits if you want to be able to safely provide people with support. Like that’s kind of it, right? And it’s not because I advocate taking everything, it’s because I do think we’d have a healthier society if people could safely navigate what they’re going through.
OB: A socially conscious answer there ha-ha-ha. I think we’ve asked a similar question before and I got some wild answers.
3. It’s well known that when The Devil Went Down to Georgia, he was beaten in a fiddle playing contest by Johnny. What secret talent of yours do you reckon you could beat the Devil you know in a contest at?
Kate: I’ve been thinking so much about secret talent stuff because I’m like, what if I end up on Jimmy Fallon one day and he’s gonna ask what’s your secret talent? I would probably say… intonating a violin. I play violin. The Devil‘s there. I reckon I could do a pretty good job at getting a violin, like by ear, sounding in tune.
OB: Nice. You’ll bring back some memories for the Devil of his last defeat.
Kate: Ha-ha yes, it’ll be on brand.
4. In Waiting for My Car, a strung-out supermodel sits on the curb waiting for a ride that might never come. With the benefit of hindsight, would her night have been improved if she had one of those fancy self-driving cars that have been kicking around the place recently?
Kate: Yeah, definitely! She is waiting for that car and like her time has come. It’s here now. But I think that car’s still going straight to hell, but yeah, she’ll be alright.
5. In NY-LA you proclaimed that if everyone buys ticket, you could play The Tivoli. How far off do you reckon you are from making that a reality?
Kate: I can tell you exactly how far we are. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten, we are two thousand four hundred tickets away from playing The Tivoli!
Like many artists we’ve had on, Kate was wondering before the interview how we manage to do these in under ten minutes. Well, the proof is in the pudding, the whole interview went for about four minutes!
A massive thank you to Dakota (@strictly.sentimental) for shooting for the article even after three days of Bigsound!
The Megaflower Tour rolls on for another two weekends across the country:
